Extended Project
Introduction to The Extended Project
The Extended Project is a new qualification which will be available as an enrichment subject for the Upper Sixth.
The standard of work is A2 standard, hence UCAS points go up to 70 for an A*- therefore it is worth over half an A-level.
The Key thing about the extended Project is that it should be based entirely on a topic of the student's own choice.
Of course to ensure that it is appropriate the final decision will follow discussion with a teacher.
Students will be mentored and will have a lesson of taught skills most weeks.
Why Do The Extended Project?
- It is an opportunity for independent learning
- It is a chance to develop an interest and get academic recognition for it
- You will use skills and knowledge not available in you other A-levels
- It will provide a toolkit of skills essential fro university and employment
- It will provide an opportunity to impress during the university application process - especially interviews at Oxbridge
The Extended Project comprises of...
- A Project Product which must be a report comprising between 1000 and 5000 words, but can also include an artefact; a DVD/CD of a performance; a photographic or other media display (generally, the stronger the emphasis on these the shorter the report needs to be);
- A Production Log which must fulfil the necessary set pages required by the specification;
- A Presentation for a non specialist audience using appropriate media; supported by answers to questions.
- All are essential but the grading comes from the Project Product.
