The Modular AS/A2 System
Every course offered for examination at Welbeck is modular.
Examinations will take place in January and May/June of the Lower Sixth, and in January and June of the Upper Sixth. The structure of the courses is as follows:
- A levels will consist of two parts- the first part is the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and the second is the A2.
- Each part has 300 marks. So an A level is out of 600.
- Each part consists of two or three modules.
- The first two/three modules that make up the AS qualification will be examined at a level of difficulty appropriate to the first year of A level study.
- Assessment of each module will be by either examination, coursework, or a combination of both.
- AS and A level qualifications will have a pass grade of A-E or a fail grade of U.
- Grades are awarded on the basis of 80% - A, 70% - B, etc. i.e.
- An A* grade is available at A Level if you achieve 90% in your A2 modules and achieve an A overall.
| AS Level | A2 Level | ||
