Career Profiles
Engineers work on board every type of ship in the Royal Navy, and at every type of shore base at home and abroad.
You could serve aboard one of our aircraft carriers with a crew of more than 1,000 personnel, deployed around the world in support of military operations.
Or you could be part of the close-knit team of just 30 crew on an offshore patrol vessel, monitoring fishing in the North Sea.
You might work on a destroyer carrying out diplomatic duties in ports around South America.
Or you could work on a submarine travelling the world’s oceans undetected.
Every two or three years, you will move jobs to a different ship or shore base. And every time you will meet new people and enjoy new experiences.
You could be based around the UK, from Scotland to the south coast of England. And you will have the chance to work all around the world. From the South Atlantic to the Far East, North America to the Gulf.
Wherever you go, and whatever stage of your career you are at, the Royal Navy will offer you support, stability and excitement that you will not find anywhere else.
Royal Navy engineers do not just look after our ships and submarines.
The Harriers, Merlins, Sea Kings and other aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm also need highly skilled personnel to keep them in the air.
You could be based on board an aircraft carrier preparing a Harrier before it heads off on a reconnaissance mission. Or you could manage the maintenance of a search and rescue helicopter based at Royal Naval Air Station as Culdrose in Cornwall. Wherever you work, you will play a crucial role in keeping our aircraft operating safely and effectively.
