Cure Leukaemia 10k Run
Once again 16 Trenchardians woke up at the ungodly hour of 7:00 am on a Sunday to participate in the Cure Leukaemia 10k run at Sutton Park. With all the upper sixth nicely refreshed after an early night…it only took 3 people with 5 visits into his room to wake Griff up and Alice Ward was no where to be seen.
Mr Worral had the pleasure of driving down to Sutton Park. He was frustrated early on when he soon realised that he had nothing but clear road in front of him and a minibus limited to 60mph. We eventually got there and collected our t shirts when Sweeney and Griff managed to acquire two cure leukaemia sweatshirts from out of the blue. We discovered that the Red Bull had decided to sponsor the event and they were handing out free Red Bulls so Griff decided to have over three before the race and to take one with him.
There were a lot of nerves at the start as the teams battled to get the best positions from the start. This lead to the 1st K of the race a being like Congo train with a long line of orange vests moving up the field.
This didn’t last long as most of us realised that the quick pace at the start wasn’t a good idea. At around the 3k mark Greg discovered that with 7k left he was in trouble and he dropped of the pace. It was an intense battle between team 2 and 3 as the first four runners in each team were about evenly placed. However, team 1 consisting of Harris, Callum, Sweeney and Griff were no where to be seen. This continued right to the finish with Featley coming first out of our party.
Eventually we departed with a large box full of Red Bulls. Apart from the final hill which was torture everyone enjoyed the race. Thanks to Mr. Worral for taking us and cheers to everyone who took apart.
Mark Rodgers, Trenchard, 07E
