The College Medical Centre, known to all as the CMC offers a wide range of medical care, it is staffed
by three qualified Nurses and three Health Care Assistants. Opening hours are from 07: 30 to 19:30,
Monday to Saturday. Outside of these times nursing cover is provided as an On Call system. The
nursing team works closely with the local GP practice who provide two GP surgeries on site each week.
There is also a physiotherapist who holds weekly sessions and a Counsellor who visits on a regular basis.
The day is structured around three Nurse led clinics, 07:30 to 09:00 deals with minor illness and minor
injuries, 13:00 to 14:00 deals with booking appointments and repeat prescriptions, the third clinic 18:00
to 19:00 deals with review of injuries and illness. In between these times, as well as providing
emergency treatment, the students have individual appointments for a variety of clinical interventions
such as, venepuncture, ultrasound therapy, routine and travel vaccines, smoking cessation, STI
screening and cryotherapy.
The CMC facilities are excellent, as well as three treatment rooms and a dayroom, there is a ward area
with provision for twelve in- patients. Whilst a student is generally only “bedded down” for the day,
in the event that their medical condition requires close monitoring, a member of the nursing team
will stay overnight in the CMC .
Whilst all medical care is confidential between the CMC and the student, the CMC works closely with
the Pastoral, Military and Sports staff to ensure that all students maintain their optimum physical,
mental and social health.
