Information for Parents
At Welbeck young people are given every opportunity to develop a wide range of talents that will allow them to progress smoothly onto their chosen career path and beyond. It is our aim to produce self assured young people who will move towards higher education with confidence, independence and enthusiasm. Whilst there is a great emphasis on academic study we do not lose sight of the wider implications of the boarding experience in preparation for the future. There is a lot of scope for a breadth of experiences to support their physical, sporting, leadership and personal development.
All the students at Welbeck are encouraged to develop a sense of belonging and everyone should feel that they are valued members of the boarding community. We encourage our students to develop a spirit of adventure, be curious about all aspects of their education and take responsibility for their actions.
Our students have a high success rate at A level, University and beyond; in part this is due to the quality of the relationships that the students develop through their pastoral and academic experiences. They develop close relationships, enjoy a wide range of sporting/cultural activities and live in an environment which has resources, facilities and opportunities beyond those offered in the home environment.
Concern for the individual is of paramount importance, the college aims to give everyone the opportunity to fulfil their potential, whether in the academic, personal or sporting fields or in the numerous extra-curricular activities on offer. We endeavour to develop in them a strong sense of moral responsibility and a set of principles that can guide them through their lives to bring them success in their chosen career/profession.
The communication of values are vital; we aim to have an open and trusting college, based upon mutual respect for all members of the community where the education of our students is carried out in an atmosphere of positive encouragement and in conditions that are conducive to learning.
There are three phases in the preparation for their professional careers. Firstly, they attend the College where they study for their A levels whilst developing the personal, physical and leadership capability. Secondly, post Welbeck (click here for the link), the students will go on to read for a degree at university via the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme (DTUS). Thirdly, after graduation (click here for the link), they move onto Officer Training with the Armed Services or Initial Professional Development Training with the MOD Civil Service. PV students can attend any university and are not a part of DTUS.
Once these phases have been successfully completed they enter their chosen career as well trained and fully prepared professionals with the requisite skills and experiences necessary to not only succeed, but to enjoy a long and rewarding career for life.
