Social Life
The students will have a varied and social life within the boarding environment; for example, clubs, societies and the Quorum Club – the student club. There will also be an opportunity to explore other social activities externally; for example, shopping in Loughborough, going to a local church on Sunday or a theatre/cinema trip in Leicester. Any social activity that is organised by the college will be regarded as appropriate to the development of the students’ social skills. These events will be monitored and/or supervised by the college staff.
The college rules regarding these activities will apply and in some cases parental/guardian consent will be required for certain activities to take place; in other areas the Houseparents will sanction a given activity subject to appropriate consultation with all involved parties.
Whilst the Quorum Club can serve alcohol this is subject to the licensing laws of the land. Regardless of age all students will require a letter from their parents/guardian giving consent to consume alcohol both on and off site. This regulation extends to upper sixth dinner nights and Tutor group outings (which are part of the personal development programme).
For students who have a particular expertise/interest which the college can not provide there may be an opportunity for them to pursue their specialist activity externally. However this is at the discretion of the college and each case will be treated individually.
In some cases a social activity will not be free and the students will have to make a payment. Where possible costs are kept to a minimum and in certain cases special provision can be made to enable students to experience the full range of social activities on offer.
