REME Work Experience (November 2011)
On Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd November 2011 myself and Conan McBroom organised a work experience placement for ourselves with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME). This was at 202 (Midlands) Field Hospital (V) where we would be working with their attached REME SSgt.
During our time there we worked on Landrovers where we both worked on the engine, learning about the different parts and taking bits apart and putting them back together. We also worked on the MAN SVs where we had a lesson on the engine and how to diagnose problems with the MAN using the MAN-cats diagnosis system. The MAN-cats diagnosis system costs over £7,000 so we had to be very careful when using it on the MAN! On the second day we attended the 143 (WM) BDE BEME’s Conference at HQ 143 BDE, Shrewsbury. This is where the equipment support element of the REME is directed from and so we experienced how it all works.
Myself and Conan learnt a lot about the REME, how they work on a day to day basis and the different roles the REME play to help equip the Army. It was a fantastic experience and we would like to thank 202 Field Hospital (V) for hosting us for the two days.
