Welbeck Leadership Challenge (April 2010)
On Friday 23rd April 250 Cadets in 27 teams arrived at the College to compete in the annual Welbeck Pentathlon. Due to the hard work and preparation by Officer Cadet Thompson and Jorden Allcock, this year saw another 24 teams enter the event than in previous years.
The Cadets participated in 14 stands around the College, all staffed by Welbeck students. The stands included:-
- PT (both in the pool and on dry land)
- Command Tasks
- Air Rifle Shooting
- Archery
- Planning Exercise
- High Ropes
- First Aid
- Signals
The Saturday evening was spent relaxing in the Quorum, giving the Cadets the chance to get to know the Welbeck students on a more informal basis. It also gave them a great opportunity to ask questions and get to know what Welbeck is all about.
Following this it was off to bed for everyone in order to get some rest before the remainder of the stands were completed on the Sunday. Once the Cadets had completed all 14 stands their scores were quickly totalled and the final parade was held to congratulate the best teams.
Congratulations must go to all teams and Cadets who completed the weekend, however the overall winning teams of the weekend are as follows:-
1st - Skill at Arms (Range and Archery) - Bedford School CCF
3rd – Overall (all 14 stands) – RGS Newcastle CCF
2nd – Overall (all 14 stands) – Hailbury CCF
1st – Overall winner of all 14 stands - Bedford School CCF
A big thank you must go to the Welbeck staff for hosting the event, particularly Officer Cadet Thompson and the Commander of 49 Wessex Brigade, Brigadier Williams, for coming to see the event on the Sunday and presenting the prizes. A special mention must also go to all the Welbeck students who were out on the ground running the stands, as without their hard work and professional attitude the event would not have been possible.
