Gliding (February 2007)
On Sunday 11th February 4 Welbeck cadets travelled to RAF Syerston to 644 VGS to do a Gliding Induction Course (GIC)
After staying at college along with people form the England/Italy rugby game and a few going on a REME FAM visit, we were up bright and early to get ready and make plenty of jam sandwiches for lunch.
Upon arriving at RAF Syerston we were briefed, kitted up and met some ATC cadets from Chris Hill’s old SQN. It was also at this point we had an in depth discussion on why I had not put any butter on the jam sandwiches.
Once we began gliding we were shown the controls for pitch, roll, and yaw in the glider and allowed to take the controls and fly it, gaining experience in use of the controls and also learning more about how the aircraft functions. We were also demonstrated both a conventional stall and a stall with the engine at full power, which we learned from and also had lots of fun whilst doing them.
However as is with all flying the day soon ended and we were able to go home and begin our half term at home.
