Inter-Platoon Orienteering Competition (October 2010)

On Tuesday 12th and Thursday 14th October 2010 the entire College participated in an Inter-House Orienteering Competition. This took place in The Outwoods, a local ancient woodland site. The event was sponsored by Leicestershire Orienteering Club who supplied the checkpoints and set up the course.
Those students who could not compete assisted in setting up the start and finish points, as well as collecting the scores and organising the competitors upon their arrival.
The students were transported to the area in small groups on their relevant Military Leadership Training (MLT) days and started the individual course at one minute intervals. Each student had one hour to run around The Outwoods with a map trying to find as many of the 30 checkpoints as possible. Most came back within the time, with various scrapes and grazes, handed in their results and had a hot drink before being transported back to College.
Members of the local public using The Outwoods commented on how well behaved and responsible the students were, as well as their great competitiveness. In addition the Leicestershire Orienteering Club have mentioned an opportunity for some of the students to compete at a higher level.

During the two days of intense competition the scores were collated, each House scoring an average after all their scores had been totalled. Special mentions go to Peter Rhodes (270pts) and Josie Lockwood (230pts) who scored the highest Male and Female individual scores out of 300pts. Also congratulations to Alanbrooke House who finished in first place and won the Orienteering Cup for this year.
