Senior Cadet Instructors Course (February 2007)
Friday 9th February 2007, saw six keen Welbexians start their SCIC which is the Senior Cadet Instructors course, in order to become qualified to teach Cadets back at Welbeck. The course nearly had a delayed start due to the weather, however, this did not hinder our spirit as when we turned up, we shone. The course was the week of half term at Beckingham Training Camp in Lincolnshire.
The course started with the usual briefing with health and safety before demonstrations on the different lessons that we were going to have to teach that week, we all learnt the correct method teaching, and then we all planned our lessons before we delivered them the days during the days that followed. We were accompanied by many Army Cadet’s and also Cadet’s from CCF’s in the surrounding counties, and it was evident that we all enjoyed what we were doing. The course was challenging as many of us learnt the topics that we were teaching whilst we planned the lesson!
The course hit an all time high, when the exercise started on the Wednesday afternoon in the nearest training area, we practiced many section battle drills and section formations, before we prepared for a deliberate ambush in the evening, providing to be an amazing ambush, with vast amounts of ammunition and a superb pyrotechnics demonstration, which none of us had yet seen. Unfortunately due to health and safety, we were unable to sleep out in the field; however we were back in the field very early on Thursday morning, and then practiced platoon attacks, defiantly showing that the Welbeck CCF training had be effective and that the Welbexians knew what they were doing.
In conclusion, the course was fantastic, most defiantly worth the half term! And the welbexians showed great amounts of effort and enthusiasm all week especially in the cold and wet! This was evident as the top two students of the whole course were Welbexians.
