Nelson House Outing (May 2010)
On Sunday 16th May, Nelson House went on a House Social to Rebel Sports in Nottingham to do some paintballing. The day started very early, especially for those who were still recovering from President’s Dinner the night before. Once everyone had been fed and watered we headed off in the coach across Loughborough to Rebel Sports for a half-day paintballing. As we approached the venue we came across our first obstacle - the coach couldn’t fit down the narrow road to the paintballing site therefore we all had to get off and walk which didn’t go down too well with some of the U6!
Upon arrival we quickly went through our safety brief which shocked a few people as to how dangerous paintballing can be, especially when you give Welbexians a weapon and 500 paintballs! Once the safety brief was over we collected our overalls and goggles and entered the kill zone.
We were split into 2 groups (Green and Orange) for the remainder of the day. The first game was ‘capture the flag’ where you had to go to the other team’s base camp and steal their flag without getting shot. A few people (not mentioning any names) got a bit trigger happy in the first game and used almost all of their paintballs even though there were 2 more games left. This meant that quite a few people got some nasty hits, and some people even decided to turn on their own team! The second game was football which proved more difficult when you are being shot at from all directions. The final game was a big 20 minute game in which for the first 10 minutes you couldn’t be killed, so no matter how many times you got shot you had to keep going. This game was more tactical and we brought our MLT skills into play here with formations and stealth. However once people realised, this made no difference whatsoever - everyone ran around like headless chickens trying desperately hard not to play. As this was the last game, even if you were dead people still shot at you.
Overall it was an amazing day and everyone had so much fun, however I don’t think any of us came out of it without bruises. Best bruises of the day go to Adam Nadolski, Jaycob Ball and Dan Beechey.
Finally a big thank you to Mr Walsh and Mr Shooter for coming with us and making it all possible.
