Nelson House Outing - Paintball (May 2011)
After an early morning start, Nelson House set off for half a day of Paintballing at Rebel Sports in Nottingham. Upon arrival we were kitted out with our masks, camouflage overalls and guns and then split into two teams, reds and greens, and each player was issued with their paintballs to last for all of the games.
Most of us in the Lower Sixth hadn’t been paintballing before and therefore were unsure of what to expect, however we were soon all thrown in at the deep end when we played our first game of 'Capture the Flag'. The Upper Sixth, who had been paintballing last year, already knew what to do and the carnage began once we entered the game area. Most people got shot in this first game and soon realized that stealth and a good shot were the main attributes needed to survive. In the second game we had to collect items from Land Rovers which were in the middle of the battlefield and transport them back to our team bases. This game was much more trigger happy as we started to use our paintballs en masse and worked in smaller groups within our teams to outwit and overcome the opposition.
In the final match of the day we were defending a fort whilst the other team attacked it with the aim of getting their flag inside our walls. As this was the last game we went all out and used almost all of our paintballs on each other. There were some brave runs from both teams which ultimately ended up with most people being covered in paint and nursing the bruises that they had accumulated.
Overall Nelson House had a great day and the Lower Sixth cannot wait to go again next year. Thank you to Mr Walsh, Mr Hardern and Mr Graham for accompanying us and also for some ace paintballing skills!
