Alton Towers (September 2011)
On Sunday 18th September we took our annual College Outing to Alton Towers Resort, a day for all the students to get to know each other, though many would have appreciated a later start than 7am on a Sunday morning!
Although the weather started out a little dull and cold it soon brightened up as the day progressed. Welbexians scattered the complex from the outset with most starting on the bigger main rides first to prevent having to queue for over an hour later on. For some, however, this didn’t go entirely to plan and were stuck waiting in the drizzle.
The drizzle, however, was not the reason for the majority of soaking – the Flume and River Rapids were the major culprits as we didn't really think to wear anything waterproof! There were, of course, the more sensible ones among us who steered clear of the water rides in the temperamental English weather, but hot doughnuts and food made up for it.
There were those who spent the day running between all the main rides over and over again and others who wandered around at a more leisurely pace chatting to the other Welbexians that you were guaranteed to pass every 100 yards or so. No matter what your plan was everyone enjoyed the day out of College and were all definitely tired for lessons the next day.
Many thanks to all the members of staff who gave up their precious Sundays to accompany us, and especially Mr Clarke for all of his hard work in the organisation of the event.
