The season for boys hockey started early in September. The squad was selected, but pre-season fitness was somewhat below par. With a good three months before the fixtures started we had time to build up levels. And after countless laps of the pitch, drills and short-corner routines we were starting to become a team.
By the first fixture we were raring to put all the training into practice, it was not wasted. The team played well in a tough first match and we came out with a positive result. We built on our success throughout the season playing some of the strongest teams in the area and arguably the country. With plenty of goals, and performances I was proud to be a part of, the team showed that Welbeck was a force to be reckoned with on the U18 hockey field.
This year the boy’s hockey has reached a higher level then the college has ever seen before. This has been achieved by hard work from all the team and staff and I would like to thank everybody who has put in the hours this year.
