At Welbeck DSFC, my aim is to progress pupils to a level of playing ability and knowledge of badminton where they can compete at a level which would enable them to understand the merits of the game in a competitive, yet enjoyable fashion. At the higher ability end of the group, we aim to progress players further to compete in the county colleges competition and to progress our progress year on year, with this year an introduction of a women’s team in the competition for the first time.
The sessions consist of badminton specific fitness drills, footwork patterns, technical practices and tactical situations. The aim of the sessions is to progress pupils technically and tactically through the year. Pupils learn the full range of basic shots and will hopefully be able to apply them in a match situation, with the correct tactical knowledge. Each twice weekly session a new shot/movement/tactic is introduced.
Each session is modelled on the following plan:
- Warm-up drills
- Footwork Drills
- Technical (Shot) Drills
- Tactical Drills
- Match play
