Volleyball
This was the third year of Volleyball at the new site. Most of the participants had little experience but quickly worked out that this was a physically demanding sport with lots of movement and skills to learn.
The training was intense with the first half on technique and the second half on playing games. We were very fortunate to have Dr Lakomy from Loughborough University, an international volleyball coach, to demonstrate and give training advice. In addition, this year we were able to use his own invention – three ‘spiking machines’, which greatly improve the quality of that particular activity.
Though volleyball is a 'recreational sport' in that there are no fixtures, games were competitive as ever, and the House match was keenly contested. Each House played one 25 point set against each other House, the winners being Portland for the second year running.
This 'mixed' sport was not only enjoyed by all, but some perhaps will have been enthused to try it when they move on to University.
