Boarding and Community

For the vast majority of the students who come to Welbeck this is their first experience of boarding and living away from home.  All of our lower sixth students will start our induction programme upon arrival to the College. This will support your transition into your new lifestyle as well as help you to get to know members of the upper sixth, staff and your fellow new entrants.  Our trained prefect and peer mentor teams will help you to settle in quickly during your first few weeks at the College.

The College has a relatively small, close-knit community, meaning everyone gets to know one another very quickly.  You will be allocated to one of five houses under the care of a qualified house parent, deputy house parent and house boarding assistant who manage your care and overall development.  Each boarding house has its own identity, and respective students tend to develop strong ties, promoting healthy competition across the College.  This supportive framework provides an ideal “home from home” and facilitates a smooth transition from the College to university.
